Proverbs 4:20-22, NLT
My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don't lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.
To truly learn, you have to do more than just show up for class; even when the Holy Spirit is your teacher. Even with focused, careful reading, it will take more than one reading for something to really penetrate deep into your heart. If you've given yourself the goal of reading the whole Bible, the discipline and determination involved in doing that is of value. It's not only of value to you, it's of value to Jesus that you are making this effort to know Him better. Do not doubt that. If you are making the effort to read the Bible, Jesus is your most enthusiastic cheerleader! (See Hebrews 7:25, intercession is Jesus cheering for you!)
After you've read whatever you're reading for the day, don't just close your Bible and move on. Go back and find a few verses that stand out to you, and read those several times. Take the time to let the Spirit teach you. Take the time to let the words truly penetrate deep into your heart.
Will you walk away from every day's reading knowing that you have been completely and eternally changed? Probably not. But there will be growth. "Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation." Psalm Him. 68:19 (ESV) Trust that everyday God is bearing you up, closer and closer to Think about it…
