Day 8

Wednesday, February 12th

Psalm 119:105, ESV

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

John 1:4-5, ESV

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Matthew 5:14, ESV

You are the light of the world. a city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

There's a lot of poetry in the Bible. The biggest collection of poetry is in the book of Psalms, but there's poetry all over the Bible. Today's verses are poetic references to light.

When you invite Jesus into your life, His light overcomes your darkness. The light He brings is more than just the promise of an eternally bright future. Ps. 119:105, applies to your daily life, right now. He is "a lamp to my feet," because He shows you the next step to take. "He is a light to my path" because He shows you what path to take, and when it might be time for a new path.

There's a lot of darkness in the world, and a lot of people who need the light of Jesus. That's why Jesus said, "You are the light of the world." Jesus is the light that shines on your path to guide you. The reason to follow Him so closely is because Jesus wants His light to shine not just on you, but also through you. Jesus is the light that shines on your path to lead you, and He is the light that shines through you to light the path for others to find Him.

The closer you walk to Jesus, the more His light breaks through the darkness of the world to shine on those around you. Stay close to Jesus; shine brightly!

Think about it...

Do you make decisions on your own, or do you look to Jesus to light your path?

How can you intentionally bring the light of Jesus to those who are still in the darkness of the wrong path?

Take a moment to be with God

Ask God to help you learn to see and follow His guidance in your life.

Pray that God will help you be an effective witness to family, friends, and co-workers who need the light of Jesus in their lives.
